Of an unsung war hero

Julley! I recently took a trip to Leh-Ladakh and this is how Ladakhi people greet one and all. Ladakh has 2 contrasting sides to it. One which showcases/flaunts a landscape so majestic and vast that you don’t feel like it can be a part of India. And with so many foreigners touring beside you, it is more natural for you to feel like you are on foreign land. However, the 2 nd and stronger side of Ladakh ensures you snap out of this delusion within seconds and that is the Indian Army. Throughout Leh and Ladakh, in fact, right from Manali you will find numerous Army quarters, camps, bunkers, convoys and Army personnel. Find men at Khardung La or Chang La not shivering in sub zero temperatures without even wearing one extra layer to keep themselves warm? Yes, that’s Indian Army for you - stationed at altitudes so high and terrains so difficult that you cannot even imagine it leave alone fathom it. Of all the places that I visited, Hall of Fame in Leh is one that had the most i...

Red Wedding

Image
The "Red Wedding" episode was one of the most crucial episodes of the Game Of Thrones series and a gory one at that. However, my topic of interest isn't that, yet, the Red Wedding I am going to talk about is equally gory and important. Today, 28th of May is being observed as Menstrual Hygiene Day. Initiated by WASH United in 2014, Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHD) builds awareness of the fundamental role that good menstrual hygiene management plays in helping women and girls reach their full potential. To begin with, let us first understand what menstruation is. Menstruation is a monthly shedding of a female's uteral lining; it lasts about 3 to 5 days (average) and contains blood and tissue that exits her body through the cervix and vagina. The average age for a girl to get her first period is between 12 and 15, but, given today's lifestyle, it has reduced to an age as young as 8. Why this day in particular? The menstruation cycle in an average case repeat...

Bibliophilia

Image
Recently, it was "World Book Day" on the 23rd of April and I just wanted to share the benefits of having been a bibliophile (a lover of books) myself. Books are nothing but magic. No, really, think of it. If some words written on sheets of paper can make you immerse in it and transport you to a whole new world regardless of the surrounding you are reading, how short is it of magic? Now what are the so called benefits of books you may ask?  Books are a friend you can turn to when you feel lonely. Books provide you with imagination so bright and big that your life will never see a dull moment. Charlaine Harris opines that books are the cheapest vacation that one can buy while Anna Quindlen quotes that "Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home". Reading is synonymous with immense knowledge and this is one of the oldest and most established benefits of it. Reading provides mental stimulat...

My Kind Lady

Image
Kindness - The most essential quality the world is in need of today. It is kindness which allows you to empathize with someone, sympathize with few others and most importantly makes you love and as the saying goes " Make love not war" !! (well I may have replaced the word 'peace' with 'love' here:P) Now who really inspired me to write this post is my mother who is kindness personified. So below are few things that I have observed and learnt from her. 1) Keep a bird feeder in your garden. To have a home and a small beautiful garden in front of it where lots of birds come chirping is a very simple and lovely dream everyone can harbour. Keeping a bird feeder filled with grains ensures that the birds, squirrels, ants, cats have a guaranteed meal and also makes them keep visiting you and the chirps can surely uplift your mood if you are feeling low. 2) Offer water to street vendors. You often hear them patrolling the streets trying to market their produ...

Bubbles and water drops

Bathroom - the Eureka Room for any gen-now person. Recently while talking to my friend, both of us realized that our bathrooms are much more than just rooms containing a bath or shower and we couldn't agree more on it. Our bathrooms now are more personal to us than our bedrooms. With each soap bubble formed there is a thought bubble in our heads. We chance upon bizarre ideas in our bathrooms which in no way are mere non-sense but to some have proven to be life-changing-success-inducing-ideas.It is a major thinking place. Thoughts that go deep about life and death and sins and virtue and as the water trickles down from the  shower onto your body, you feel like you are being washed off your yesterday's sins (ready to become pure or commit fresh ones ;)) Bathrooms are a space where a person is not limited to science or arts, instead is a place where even a scientist tries out a moon walk on the slippery tiles and your anti-social,boring neighbour sings out like Elvis Presley or ...

Happiness

Image
Disclosure: This post is plain, straight-forward( that's right, no laces) and every bit about me. There comes a drastic change in your mind and life when you focus only on happiness. Simple thing. You remain happy. And if you are a normal person then at the end of the day ,your ultimate goal in life, whether short term or long term, is to be happy. When you start seeing only the positive, you find yourself spreading laughter everywhere, sending love to one and all and thereby living better. You realize that you have finally come out of the drama queen phase( how much ever you loved being one) and find your mind weighing a lot less than before. You hate something/someone? You find yourself not bothering too much about it and letting it be. You are hurt? You find yourself forgiving easily. You are in a mess? You find yourself working out a solution for it. You love something/someone? You find yourself being extremely grateful for it/them. All in all, you see that every se...

Broken Mornings

Image
Every Day is a fresh start, a fresh beginning. We have all heard this quote before and tried acting on it as well, but this is practically impossible to achieve unless you are suffering from amnesia. Every day is fresh for sure but still a continuation of your yesterday. Don't you think so? You get up in the morning and start off by picking things you left incomplete the previous day. The song in your playlist plays from the middle. You reply to your friend apologizing for having slept in the middle of a conversation. Now, what if every morning was to actually be a fresh beginning ?? What would you do, if you were informed that your yesterdays are going to be frozen in time and made not accessible once the clock struck 12 ?? So you had a great day, you fall asleep reminiscing about it and you wake up to find it behind a glass cage, totally inaccessible to you. How would you like it?? Well my post ends there, with a question to you. Some may like the thought of it and ...
