Satyameva Jayate

" Satyameva Jayate " was a Hindu mantra from the ancient scripture Mundaka Upanishad  Upon independence it was adopted as the national motto even , only to be forgotten gradually .The original mantra goes like this

सत्यमेव जयते नानृतं

सत्येन पन्था विततो देवयानः |

येनाक्रमन्त्यृषयो ह्याप्तकामा

यत्र तत् सत्यस्य परमं निधानम् ||६||

Meaning:Truth alone triumphs; not falsehood.Through truth the divine path is spread out by whichthe sages whose desires have been completely fulfilled,reach where that supreme treasure of Truth resides

But now I am talking about Satyameva Jayate the TV program , the one directed by Satyajit Bhatkal and which is produced by the anchor himself , Aamir Khan . The show is even translated to six other languages to find its way into the minds of almost every Indian and its first episode was even specially screened in some of the most remote villages whose locals hadn't ever seen a television !The show has successfully completed 3 episodes and has completely won my heart with the kind of work it is doing , hopefully the hearts of the entire nation too!! And if not hearts then at least the attention of  the 2nd largest populated country !! The show starts with Aamir telling few lines which summarizes to this , "that ,  he doesn't want to create any war ,controversy or unbalance with this show but he just wants to ignite a fire within each one of us to fight injustice and raise a voice against it " .... The 3 episodes till now has dealt with 3 very serious issues of  female foeticide , child sex abuse and 'marriage & dowry harassment' and each of it fighting or inspiring to fight  the issues right from the way they chose to address it ! For eg ,the first episode was titled "daughters are precious " ,the second one " break the silence " and 3rd one called " marriage or market place" ....
The show brings to focus the horrible torture or rather hell that few of the participants went through and how they over came it ,sadly some of them succumbed to it . It also highlighted some shocking observations ,for example that "according to 2011 census, the rate at which the unborn female child is killed amounts to killing off 10,00,000 girls a year and there were 914 girls for every 1,000 boys" !!!!and that even after 1000s of child sex abuse cases being reported , Indian Law still doesn't have any special law to fight the same !!!!

It gave a sneak peek of how the nation's daughters and sons have silently suffered and  most of them are continuing to do so ....He interviews not only the victims but also the concerned legal advisors ,medicos and other aam janata  about their take on the subject .At the end of the show ,Aamir makes an appeal to his audiences telling that he is going to raise a legal voice against the problem and that they (WE) support him in it by just sending a message through their precious mobiles which costs just Re.1 !!For all of us who can spend money like flowing water on unwanted cosmetics or clothes giving us only the outer beauty (and for some not even that !!! )  can surely spend just a rupee on supporting a noble cause and start thinking of beautifying ourselves from within too !!! And I can give you with statisitcs how your support  is helping achieve greater good for the society ! Just after the first episode of female foeticide , the impact of raising a voice against the show was so : 

On the next day after the episode went on air, Rajasthan chief minister,Ashok Gehlot , urged the public representatives and other non-governmental organisations to take actions to stop illegal practice of female foeticide. An official reported that Gehlot also reviewed existing efforts taken by government against the issue. He also directed the officials to prepare a plan for a special campaign against female foeticide.Khan, as promised on the show, met Gehlot over the issue of female foeticide. Gehlot accepted the request to set up fast track court to deal the case of sting operation featured on the show, which was conducted in 2005 by Meena Sharma and Shripal Shaktawat.After discussion with Gehlot, Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court , Arun Kumar Mishra given permission to set up the fast track court. The sting operation had revealed faces of more than 140 doctors involved in illegal practice of sex determination test and abortino. But no one were punished in the case even after seven years.On May 10, 2012, The Rajasthan Government suspended licenses of six sonography centres and issued notices to 24 others for violating the provisions of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal and Diagnostic (PCPNDT) Act, 1994. However, the health minister of Rajasthan, Rajkumar Sharma, criticized the show for "sensationalising female foeticide cases". He argued that government had already been taking action against female foetecide, and did not perform a knee-jerk reaction following the show.The first episode of the show also made impacts on several state govts in India. Maharashtra Health Minister, suresh shetty asked Khan's support for government's campaign against female foeticide. In a letter written to Khan, Shetty mentioned that Maharashtra govt had registered cases against 317 sonography centres in the state conducting unauthorized sex determination tests. Also 27 doctors and four families who sought the sex determination tests have been punished under PCPNDT Act. However bollywood actor couple Ajay Devgan and Kajol are later associted with the government's campaign against female foeticide. Haryana govt made it compulsory to submit identification proof of the pregnant woman at ultrasonography centres as a pre-condition for undergoing the prenatal sex discernment test. Haryana government also announced a reward of 21,000  to those who give information about doctors conducting sex determination tests in the state. While Govt of Madhya pradesh had suspended licence of 65 Medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) centres in the state . 

Now dont you think for starters it is a very good change that has started ?????????????

But it saddens me when i still see flash news reading " the upcoming KBC show overshadows Satyameva Jayate in the TRP ratings even before it goes on air !!!  ..

But decisions are left to you ,Take your stand .
